THE STEELES are excited to be beginning a new chapter in life and ministry! About a year and a half ago Sherry and Jeff Steele joined forces with long time friend Andrew Ishee and began performing a series of dates called Monumental Monday’s with THE STEELES. Jeff states “I was The Senior Pastor at our church and Andrew was the Worship pastor at his church and we arrived at Monday as about the only date we COULD work. None of the three of us ever had any intention, nor did we ever even talk about ever doing this full-time again. The dates were a resounding success but even THAT never became a conversation about going back full-time. We were having too much fun!
The Lord began to deal with Sherry and I about going back. We asked Andrew what HE thought and after some prayerful consideration he decided that (with he and his wife Sheree having two small children) the time was just not right for him. There are absolutely NO hard feelings. We could not love Drew any more than we do…still talk every day and are so happy for the time we shared together.” Andrew says…”I DO love Sherry and Jeff. I have known them all my life. We have had a blast! I am thrilled to see them take this opportunity to minister full-time on the road again. I just feel like (and I learned this from Dr. Steele) that my most important ministry (at this time in life ) is to be a godly father to my two little girls and a “present” husband to my wife Sheree. I will still do some of my piano concerts as the schedule allows and I will pray for the ministry of THE STEELES!”
THE STEELES conducted a nationwide search for a new singer and landed on another life-long family friend Matthew Thompson. Matthew has sung previously and most recently with The Men of Music! His brother Landon was a member of the group Testify and is now serving a church in Houston, TX. He heard about the opening and recommended that Matthew try out for the position. Sherry says “we are excited about this step of faith and trust the Lord for our future as we walk through this new door.” Keep up with THE STEELES singing and preaching ministry @ www.jeffrsteele.com and through Facebook and Twitter
Big news from the land of THE STEELES!! Per Jeff Steele…”On August 31st I painfully informed my church in Cullman, AL that as of September 14th I would be stepping down as Senior Pastor there. It has been a very rewarding nine years that we spent in that position and we have been blessed beyond measure with God’s richest blessings. We had the honor of leading 3 new building programs during our time here and saw hundreds join and many were saved. We meant to stay until we retired.
BUT GOD! When God says GO you’d better not sit still and God very clearly revealed to Sherry and myself that the time had come to start a new chapter in our ministry. At age 55 I am very well aware that this will be my “last lap” around the track. Now I pray that it will be a long, healthy, useful trip but it IS the last one for me. We have decided to return to the road. We want to minister to as many people as possible in the time we have left to do so. Please pray with us about this new season of our lives. Our desire is to help grow the Church of The Lord Jesus Christ. I will continue preaching in conferences and revival meetings. The Steeles will still sing. Many churches are planning giant Harvest Sunday’s with THE STEELES featuring preaching that morning and a concert that night!
If you are interested in having THE STEELES for a service in your church contact us today at 256-590-2068! There have been so many dates we have had to turn down because of our pastoral duties and we are now free to minister most anytime…most anywhere. Our heart is in the church and we look forward to ministering in your area soon.
I just wanted to get the official word out immediately so you could know where we are and what we are doing. Again…pray for us and we will see YOU…ON THE ROAD!”
Today I announced my resignation as Pastor of Faith Baptist Church in Cullman, Alabama. It was for our family very bittersweet. People have been so good to us here. We have no regrets. Brad is now a Jr. in College, Christy got her degree and is now teaching High School and Kayla got married and is the mother of our grand child and has one on the way! I rejoice in God's goodness, am amazed at His mercies that are made new every morning and hey...the bottom line is...if you ever wanted to have ME for a meeting OR The STEELES for a concert....WE gotta eat and we are now available nearly any time!! Contact me HERE and let's set something UP!!
One of Southern gospel’s brightest shining groups will sing their popular worship ballads this weekend at the Leon Frazier Kiwanis Memorial Concert.
The Steeles will join The LeFevre Quartet for the 6 p.m., Saturday night concert at the Historic Corinth Coliseum Civic Center.
The Steeles feature the husband and wife team of Jeff and Sherry Steele who along with Andrew Ishee travel the country spreading God’s word through music.
“We are thrilled to be back in Corinth,” said Jeff in an interview with the Daily Corinthian. “We have sung here several times back in the day and I have actually preached several revival meetings in this general area. Corinth is such a friendly city and we are native Mississippians anyway so it will be good to re-visit our friends in Corinth.”
Originally formed in 1991, Jeff acts as the lead vocalist and song writer for the group.
In 1995, the group released “God Kept His Promise” and “I Got Up and Went.” The popularity of those two hits helped land Jeff the Southern Gospel Songwriter of the Year award from BMI. Since then, the group has picked up three additional BMI Gold medals for BMI Southern Gospel Songs of the Year.
“The Steeles have been out there a long time,” added Jeff. “We just won an award for Video of the Year for our latest single. I jokingly tell folks that we were 20 years between awards.”
In 1996, The Steeles released the album “We Want America Back,” which quickly became a sensation among the conservative faithful. The album would garner the band dozens of award nominations after the album’s namesake track spent weeks on top of the Southern gospel charts. The title track was also adopted by radio personally James Dodson for his radio show “Focus on the Family.”
The father of three said the group does a nice job of mixing some of the group’s old songs and some of their new stuff.
“I can't stand to go hear groups who have been out there a long time, but only sing their most recent hits,” he said. “So we don't do that.”
Jeff splits his time in front of the mic with the Faith Baptist Church in Cullman, Ala. For the last eight years, he has served as senior pastor.
The song writer's wife, Sherry may be one of Gospel music’s favorite voices.
Sherry’s song with The Steeles called “In My Eyes” has become a staple of churches for Mother’s Day, baby dedications and weddings.
The former pianist for The Kingsmen Quartet, Ishee returns to Corinth after playing with the quartet at the memorial concert in the past.
For the first time, Ishee will join The Steeles for singing duties.
“I hope when people listen to our music that they will experience the reality of what we sing about and that is a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ His son,” said Jeff. “Our music is made up of the songs God has allowed me to write and we're not complicated. Our lyrics are straight ahead and easy to understand. We want folks to feel and sense our sincerity when we sing.”
The LeFevre Quartet will also perform at this weekend's memorial concert.
The Atlanta-based group features Thomas Nalley, Jordan LeFevre, Mike LeFevre and Randy Byrd. Gospel music fans recently voted them Horizon Group of The Year.
DuJuana Frazier Thompson will open for The LeFevre Quartet.
Proceeds from the 17th annual concert go to the Kiwanis scholarship fund, which over the years has awarded more than 200 scholarships totaling more than $160,000.
(Advanced tickets are $12, at the door $15 and artist’s circle $20. Tickets can be purchased at New Life Christian Supply or corinthkiwanis.org. For special group rate or any other questions, contact 662-665-1175.)
